Adventure of a Lifetime (Outro)

"Said I can't go on,
Not in this way
I'm a dream that died by light of day
Gonna hold up half the sky and say
Only I own me...
Turn your magic on,
Umi she'd say
Everything you want's a dream away
Under this pressure under this weight
We are diamonds taking shape (x2)
If we've only got this life
This adventure, oh, then I
And if we've only got this life
You get me through
And if we've only got this life
In this adventure, oh, then I
Want to share it with you" Adventure of a Lifetime by Coldplay

I woke up Friday morning, super early and extremely exhausted. Christian kept his promise and didn't try anything other than spooning, but I still had trouble falling asleep in bed with him. I feign sleep until the long day and Coldplay lured me to sleep. I woke up in the middle of the night, but as soon as I moved out of Christian's arms and turned the music back on I drifted back to sleep. Now I was awake at the ass crack of dawn, Christian's arms back around me.

I got up and returned to my room. I grabbed my phone off the charger and saw that Bianca texted me the night before letting me know she made it in Tahiti.

Me: Great! Take lots of pictures, work hard and have fun!

I laid back down and was able to fall back asleep. I woke up around 10 and made my way to the kitchen.

"Bullshit. She's the side chick. The other girl doesn't want the main chick to find out." Christian said, flippantly.

"Thank you!" Shawnee applauded. "Finally, someone agreed with me."

"What'd I miss?" I asked, joining them at the table.

While Jennifer made me a plate, she explained she was working on a response for her relationship column. She read us a letter from a woman whose girlfriend always blurred or cropped pictures of them together. She also never changed her relationship status on her profiles.

"I don't know. Just because she won't post pictures together doesn't mean somethings up. Maybe she's just private." I shrugged.

"You have to be. Thots out here today are shameless- once they see you have a good man, they'll work twice as hard to take him away from you. The first picture I posted of Reggie was him proposing." Jennifer claimed.

I laughed. "I don't know about all that, but I guess I kinda live my life instead of posting about it." I explained.

"Exactly. The most insecure people feel the need to post every detail of their life online. I respect a woman more when she doesn't." RJ commented, giving his sister a sharp look. Shawnee just rolled her eyes.

"You don't think that's suspicious? Making it seem like you're single online?" Christian asked me.

"No. I've been in relationships and changing my status is not the first thing I did." I explained.

"Why not?"

"I'm not a huge social media person but If I don't trust the person I'm dating, there are bigger issues than them appearing single online." I told him.

"I feel like if I'm with someone, I want the world to know it. You wouldn't want your boyfriend to be proud you're his?" Christian asked.

I shook my head but smiled. "That wasn't the question Christian."

"I'm asking Lily." he replied.

"I guess it would depend if I was the main or the side chick." I responded, jokingly.

"If you were my main chick, there would be no need for a side." Christian assured me.

Shawnee scoffed. "That's what they all say."

I ate my food, declining to reply.

Christian and I finished eating then left for Union Square. My tour bus stopped there but since it mostly shops, restaurant, and bars, I didn't explore the area. It took forever to find a parking spot until Christian persuaded me to just valet. Christian donned both a hat and sunglasses so we were able to walk around aimlessly.

Christian was more into the shops and boutiques than I was. He took me to Barneys NY, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and countless little boutiques. They were too expensive for my taste but he encouraged me to pick out clothes on him. I laughed him off, encouraging him to save his money. Truthfully, him buying me clothes was too bizarre and far out of the friendship zone I was content in. He argued that the party we were going to that night and the release of his single were special event so I needed something special too.

"You have to dress a certain way at these places Lily. I invited you so let me pay for it. It's either that or I can't be seen with you." He threatened with a smile.

That eventually wore me down and convinced me to let him buy me a few things. I found a boutique named Zara's that was reasonably priced and tried to buy myself a few more things to complete two outfits. While I was in the dressing room, Christian made arrangements to pay for whatever I picked out and went to a nearby store before I could stop him.

Christian took a reluctantly me to a day spa for a winter ritual including a couples massage after shopping. Any reservations I had about being undressed and having a massage with Christian melted away as soon as the treatment began. The soothing music, light lavender scented oils, the ginger body buff, acupressure on my face and feet, scalp therapy and finally the massage all instantly relaxed me and I felt nothing but pure bliss. Completely energized and invigorated; I thanked Christian as we drank tea after our massages.

"That was amazing. I didn't even know I needed a rejuvenation." I smiled happily.

"I always do it before I have a big event. It helps gets me in the right mind frame so I can relax and appreciate the moment." Christian explained.

"I'm not even into random people touching on me, but I might have to make this a part of my life."

Christian cocked his head to the side. "It sounded like you were enjoying that massage. If I knew you made sounds like that back in college, I would have tried harder to talk to you."

I covered my mouth, embarrassed while he smiled into his mug. "My neck is one of my... sensitive spots. My masseuse stayed right there." I explained, blushing.

"Sensitive spots huh?" he teased.

"Shut up. You know what I mean." I said as we gathered our gift bags to go.

When we got back to the house, Jennifer and Yazzy had a living room full of people they affectionately called their glam squad. Jennifer instructed me to join them so we could get ready for the ESPN party together.

I put on the black robe Jennifer handed me and joined the ladies in the living room. My hair was done first. It was dampened, then blown out and finally straightened before Ms. Michele pulled it up into a top knot. He, yes he, had it off centered towards the right of my head with wispy strands failing out that he strenghten again. It was a funky cool look I would never be able to recreate at home.

Hailey, another friend of Jennifer and a professional make-up artist who contributed to Jennifer's and Yazzy's online magazine, did my make-up next.
In their terms my face was 'beat'- apparently meaning wearing more make-up than I have in my entire life. My face was assaulted with primer, foundation, concealer, bronzer, highlighting, contouring, plucking, lashes, mascara, shadows, liner, lip color, and lip gloss. It made me feel weird to know I needed that much make-up, but I was curious about how everything looked all together.

I slipped on the dress Christian bought me and examined myself in the mirror. The end results of the expensive clothes, perfectly pinned hair and expertly applied make-up was flawless, but I looked like a barbie doll rendition of myself. I recognized it as a part of Christian's life that I had to experience to get to know him, but I wasn't sure if I liked it.

I was sitting on the bed, putting on my heels, when there was a knock on my door. I tottled over to unlock the door. Christian was standing outside, dressed in a fitted pants, a dress shirt underneath and a Tom Ford bomber jacket.

"You look beautiful." He complimented, looking me over slowly as he walked in.

"No. You look beautiful. I look like an overdone Barbie. You know, the new realistic sized ones." I giggled at myself.

"You say that like it's a bad thing."

"Not bad. Just different." I replied, watching as he took a box out of his pocket.

"I bought you a little something for the outfit." He said, presenting the box to me.
I opened it to reveal a bracelet and earring set. The bracelet was a gold bangle beautifully crafted to resemble two calla lilies meeting in the middle. Both calla lilies had a trail of diamonds leading up to a pearl center. Next to it sat the matching dangling earrings. It was gorgeous, but entirely too much.

"I can't accept this." I closed the box quickly.

"Why not?" Christian asked, concerned.

"It's too much." I said, trying to give the box back to him.

"Every Barbie has to accessorize." he smiled, taking the box but removing the bracelet so he could slip it on my wrist. I couldn't help thinking about the simple charm bracelet that used to stay on my wrist instead...

"I don't want it." I said, harshly pulling it off. When Christian looked at me, confused, I took a deep breath. "The shopping, the spa, the jewelry- it's all too much. We're just friends and I feel like this is taking it past that."

A look crossed his face that I couldn't read before his lips set in a line. "The jewelry is borrowed. If you hate the clothes they can go back. I didn't want you to feel out of place tonight, but wear whatever you like. I need to finish getting ready." He said before leaving me. With a sigh of relief that the jewelry wasn't mine, I put the earrings and bracelet on and left the room.

I didn't see Christian again into we all got in the limo. He socialized with everyone but me. I was torn between feeling guilty that I might have offended him and being glad that I told him the truth about how I felt. Once we arrived at the Festival Pavilion, Christian had to leave to walk the red carpet and do a few interviews. Equipped with our passes, Jennifer, Yazzy and I explored the pavilion.

It was decked out in a nautical theme and had a ton of interactive booths set up. It was crowded with a ton of celebrities I knew and didn't know, surrounded by their entourage. I followed Yazzy and Jennifer's lead who looked completely at ease and nonchalantly about the celebrity filled event. We took our time navigating the crowds and stopping by the booths. We got to sample custom drinks featuring Ketel One Vodka, looked at the new cars from Mercedes-Benz, went to a 70's theme lounge based off the show Vinyl, and ate Dunkin’ Donuts, KFC and King Hawaiian sliders.

When Nick Jonas was announced to take the stage soon, we went to go find a place by the stage. Yazzy and I got too excited over the mini Jonas brother reunion when Joe Jonas came out and they performed Cake By The Ocean together. After a few more songs, the mini concert ended and we went to find everyone else. Tom and Grant were still filming footage for their show but Christian, RJ and Hugo were ready to go when we were.

On the drive back in the limo, Hugo monopolized Christian time talking about who was making an appearance at his release so I couldn't even speak to him if I wanted to. I didn't even know if I did. He was being so dramatic over a fucking borrowed bracelet. I understood taking some time to calm down, but leaving me the whole night with his friends was extreme.

When we got back to the house, everyone went to the sun room. I retreated to my room after about 5 minutes of failed attempts to talk to Christian about our night. I was calling Sammy to talk and vent while I packed my things to leave. Jennifer followed me into my room. I hung up before Sammy answered.

"Hey Lily. What's going on?" Jennifer asked, closing the door.

"Nothing." I lied.

"Nothing so bad you're trying to leave? It's the Super Bowl hun. The only places with rooms available are by the hour." She lectured me.

I sighed and rubbed my forehead then raised my wrist to her. "This is nothing. It freaked me out."

"That is a gorgeous nothing. Why would it freak you out?"

"Christian and I are not in a relationship. I don't even know him that well. I thought he was fine with being friends but presents like this say differently."

"Did he ask you to be in a relationship when he gave it to you?" Jennifer asked.

"No but he's acting like we are and that's why I tried to refuse it."

"Maybe you were reading a little too much into the gift. You should talk to him and see what it means to him." She advised me.

"I would if he would talk to me." I muttered.

"Try again tomorrow. If he's still acting like a dick, you'll stay. I'll kick him out."

I smiled weakly. "Thanks."

"By the way, you're doing the right thing by not jumping into a relationship. I tell my readers all the time: if you haven't seen him or her sick, don't commit!!!"

I smiled genuinely at her this time. "Really?"

"Yes really. The real relationship goal is a lifetime. Anyone not willing to wait and put in the effort is not looking for a lifetime. Make him work for it- and keep all the gifts along the way." she encouraged me.

I shook my head before taking the jewelry off. My shoes and clothes went next before I took a shower. Even after the shower, I still had bobby pins stuck in my hair and make-up on my face. I wrapped a towel around my body and stepped back in my room to use the mirror and came face to face with Christian sitting on my bed. He was holding my duffle bag.

"Don't leave. I'm sorry." He started.

"I'm not leaving. I can't. I literally have nowhere to go except for an hourly hotel. Between this hair and make-up I can't get off, I might get arrested." I joked, pulling the towel around me tighter.

"Can I help you?" he asked. "I have cleansing wipes in my room."

"Sure. I'll meet you there."

I got dressed in cotton shorts and an oversized t-shirt and went to his room. He gently removed my lashes before cleaning my face and neck with a few wipes. Next, he made quick work of the Bobby pins.

"How'd you do that?" I asked, in awe.

"Lots of experience."

"Drag queen on the weekend?"

"Close. Noelle." he smirked, running his fingers through my hair and smoothing it until it laid flat against my face. I inhaled sharply and spoke before I lost what I needed to say.

"Maybe I read a little too much into everything today. I should have asked what the gifts meant instead of assuming."

"It's my fault too. I guess I forgotten what it's like being with someone who doesn't expect lavish gifts." Christian said, sardonically.

"That's the thing. I haven't been with anyone since I broke up with Trevor." I confessed.

"What?" he said, shocked.

I nodded. "It took awhile for me to realize it was over between us. It took just as long for me to be ok being single and to want to move on. Just being out here and spending time with you is a huge step for me. I just want to be sure of myself and what I'm doing. I don't want to lead you on while I'm figuring it out."

"You're not leading me on. I'm not trying to rush anything. Everything I did today was because I like seeing you smile. That's all." Christian promised me, his fingers beginning to caress my neck.

I shuddered and wrapped my arms around him. "I guess I can try to get used to the gifts. I mean, the ones that are not going back."

"None of them are. They're yours."

I leaned in close and kissed his cheek. "Thank you."

He finally smiled at me. "You still ready to go to bed?"

"Yeah. I'm exhausted."

"You ok sleeping in here?"

I nodded and we laid down together. I slept comfortably in his arms the whole night.

On Saturday, in return for him treating me to lavish gifts, I took him on a shopping spree in Ghirardelli square. We hopped on a cable car and went to the original chocolate factory and stocked up on goodies before stopping at the diner for authentic chocolate sundaes.

"You're ok spending a ton of money on chocolate but not anything else?" Christian pointed out, picking at his ice cream.

"It only spent like $100. Your sweatpants cost more than that." I exclaimed. I was shocked when he spent $150 on Nike sweats!

"At least with clothes and jewelry you get something in return besides calories."

"Think about how much good the cost of your wardrobe could do for a needy family." I argued.

"I donate to charity all the time." Christian chuckled at me.

"Tax write offs." I muttered while he laughed. "Where do you file your taxes anyway?" I asked, thinking about what my brother said about getting to know the basics.

He wiped his mouth with a napkin. "My accountant does that. Don't change the subject. You're a hypocrite. You buy brand name chocolate, but get on a high horse about brand name clothes."

"I'll give this to my high horse." I said, snatching his treat from him.

He laughed and scooted his chair close to mine. "You have some chocolate....right here." he said, leaning over and kissing me on the mouth. It was quick, more on my cheek them lips, but it still left me stunned.

"That was much better than the chocolate." he grinned at me.

I recovered and smiled slyly back. "Good. You talked your way out of any more chocolate."

As we waited for a cable car to leave, Christian didn't have on his cap or shades, and a group of young women recognized him. They gushed over him, telling him how long they been fans and asking him to take a picture. I offered to take the picture of them and thankfully by the time they got their shots, hugs and autographs the cable car arrived.

"So how many boobs have you signed so far?" I asked him teasingly as we rode.

He laughed. "Honestly, it's still kinda weird getting recognized. I liked being behind the scenes- With Noelle and her realty show and is the album, it's happening more and more. I'm used to only getting attention at home."

"Home is New York?" I asked.

"It's where my mom's house is- it's the closest thing I have to home. I'm kinda a nomad." he explained.

"Nomadic was one of my favorite song on your album. It was for you're mom right?" I asked.

Christian nodded but didn't comment further.

"Straight Outta Fucks is a favorite too. Who was that for?" I grinned at him.

"Anyone that doubted me." Christian laughed.

Once we got back to the house, Christian had to meet with is manager and left me to get ready for the party. When the glam squad reappeared, I gladly let Shawnee and her friend take my time and opted to do my own hair and make-up. I saw that Sammy called me back, so I took my phone of the charger to speak with her. I told her I was just checking on her and Justine. She had a gig that night so she wasn't at my house, but she said she left Justine dry food and water and she was sleep when she left.

When I went into my closet to grab my clothes, I found a white varsity style jacket and a pair of Timberland boots. The jacket had gold detailing, including stripes, an emblem of halo wings and devil's horns and the phrase 3 Company's Too in bold gold letters on the back. The Timberland boots had a 6 inch wedge heel and were the signature wheat color. Both of them matched perfect with the beige crop top and white jeans Christian bought for me. There was a note that read:

Both of these cost less than your chocolate habit.

I smiled and got dressed. I left my hair wavy, parted asymmetrical and tousled around my head wildly. My make-up was lighter and more natural. I put gold studs in my ears and placed my new bracelet back on my wrist.

I hung out drinking wine with Jennifer as the ladies finished up. Everyone was wearing a t-shirt, hat, or tank promoting Christian's single. Shawnee's promotional t- shirt was fitted to her body like a sexy t-shirt dress. She was rocking thigh high white boots that looked amazing on her. Maybe it was the wine but I was loving her outfit so I told her. We were actually connecting over our mutual love of boots when Christian arrived with Hugo, his manager, telling us the car was ready.

Christian looked great in fitted dark jeans, a black and gray stripped v-neck and the same varsity jacket I was wearing just in black and gray. As I looked him over again, I noticed he was wearing gray Timberland boots.

"Why'd you get the gray ones?" I questioned with a huge grin on my face.

"'Cause I have Timberlands for everyday of the week." He reminded me and I laughed. "You look incredible." He told me, pulling me up.

"Words can't even describe how incredible you look right now." I said, giddily as his arm went around my waist.

Shawnee muttered under her breath but I couldn't make it out and RJ pulled her aside before I could try to. We piled into the limo again and toasted and congratulated Christian on the long ass drive. I assumed we were going to a club- I was pleasantly surprised when after a long drive, we ended up at a pier where a carnival was set up.

"What the fuck?" I asked Christian as we got out the limo. It was pass the regular hours for any boardwalk to be open, but the walk was still lite up, the rides were still going, popcorn and sweet scents filled the air, and loud electronic music blared over the crowds of people.

"Welcome to my single release party." he said, smiling broadly.

"This is crazy! You rented out a boardwalk?" I gasped.

"It's for a good cause." he shrugged.

"Your song?" I laughed.

"That and charity. I have a few meet and greets I have to do, but I'll see you in a bit." He handed me money before I could protest. "Go donate."

"Ok." I smiled excitedly.

Jennifer, Yazzy, Hailey, Ms. Michele and I explored the Boardwalk. We rode rides, snacked on junk food, and danced and sang like crazy every time Christian's song came on over the loud speaker.

It was an hour or so into the party when Christian finally broke away to hang out with me. We walked the boardwalk, playing games together while Christian talked and took pictures with other famous artist. Being with Christian kinda calmed me down, but I still took as many selfies, videos and pictures I could until my phone was about to die. I turned it off to preserve the remaining battery. Towards the end of the night, Christian and I snuck away and got some time alone on the Ferris wheel.

"Are you having fun?" Christian asked, placing his arm around my shoulder as we slowly ascended into the air.

"I'm having a blast. Thank you again for inviting me."

"Thank you again for coming."

We got to the top of the Ferris wheel and had a dark view of the bay. I turned to look at Christian and he was staring intently at my lips.

I smiled. "Can I get a selfie with you?"

"You want an autograph too?" He asked, his hand grazing my top.

I laughed. "Be quiet and smile!" I said as my phone powered up.

I took the picture, and was taking one of the view when notifications began to light up my phone. I had a ton of missed calls and texts. When I saw Trevor's name pop up, I instantly panicked.

I opened up the text thread and read the l lone text.

Trevor: I just consented to surgery for Justine. Call Sammy when you can.

I called Sammy right away but she didn't answer. A quick scan of her texts to me told me Justine got really sick and she took her to the vet.

"What's up?" Christian asked, snapping me from my phone.

I shook my head. "I have to go." I quickly waved at the ride attendant, signaling to stop the ride.

"Why?"

"Justine is in surgery."

"Justine?"

"My dog! She's sick. Trevor said something about surgery. I have to get home." I said, shaken, hurrying the slow ass ride in my mind.

"He can't handle it?" Christian snapped, annoyed.

I looked at him, not understanding his attitude. "She's having surgery. It doesn't matter. I should be there."

"Do what you have to do." He said plainly. I looked at him, crestfallen as the ride stop. When he didn't make a move, and just watched me, I jumped off and stalked away, dialing Jennifer's number.

"I need to leave. Right now." I blurted when she answered.

"What's wrong? Do you wanna talk about it?"

"No. I need to go. Where are we so I can get a cab."

"Just go to the limo. James will drive you back."

I did as she said. My phone died after I got the address of the emergency pet hospital and called the airlines and was told  I would have to be on standby for the next flight to Dallas. I got back to the house, packed up my things and sped to airport. I got on a flight and made it back to Dallas early Sunday morning.

I grabbed the first cab and headed straight for the pet hospital. Thankful the driver's car charger was compatible with mine so I sent out a text to my brother, dad and Sammy that I was back in Dallas.

I knew I must have looked a sight- I was still in last night clothes, had all my bags, hadn't slept- I barely blinked. The guy at the front desk eyes widen as he looked me over.  All I cared about was finding out what was wrong with Justine.

"My dog's name is Justine. She's a blue heeler and got admitted into surgery last night." I blurted out.

"Lily Harris?" the guy asked. I nodded my head and showed my ID before he told me anything.

"The surgery went well. She's in recovery. We ended up having to extract the affected tooth-"

"It was her tooth?" I asked.

"Correct. As I explained to your friend last night, she had an advance case of periodontal disease. Animals can get it too-"

"Lily!" A voice cut him off. I turned around to see Sammy heading towards me. I headed towards her and hugged her, gratefully.

"I tried to call you back! I didn't mean to scare you. She was just throwing up and wouldn't stop clawing her face. I didn't know what else to do-" Sammy explained.

"Don't be sorry. I'm sorry I didn't answer my phone." I pulled away, freezing when I saw the person behind her.

"Hey Lilypad."

I arrived at LAX in the late morning. Since my plans to hang out with Bianca fell through, I made new plans to hang with myself in San Francisco. I've been there before as a child, but never as an adult and I was excited to go on my own adventure. When I informed Christian I would be in San Francisco earlier than Saturday, he told me he would be there all week and I was still welcomed to stay with him. I quickly accepted, but informed him I would entertain myself until the weekend.

I headed straight from the terminal to the rental service where I reserved a Jeep Wrangler. It was completely open and perfect for the drive to San Francisco. Before I left for San Francisco, I had to stop by and visit my dad and brother at work.

I knew they were at the car dealership because I lied to Cam about possibly needing a ride from the airport. Apparently, Dad needed to update the computer so Cam was teaching him the new system. I went straight to back office and knocked on the door before opening it

"Hey bro!" I smiled, when I saw Cam sitting at the desk.

"What are you doing here?" he asked standing up to greet me. "I thought you got in later."

I closed the door behind me before walking over to him. "I lied." I hugged him. "Where's Dad?" I asked, sitting in the chair next to him.

Cam sat down too."You know Dad- probably out there busting someone's balls."

"Good. We have 10 minutes." I pulled out my phone and texted him an address. "I rented a car because I'm driving to San Francisco."

"By yourself?" Cam asked, pulling out his phone when it beeped.

"No. My friend Imaginary is coming for the ride. Say hi to her." I said, sarcastically.

"Don't be a smart ass sis."

"Don't be a dumbass bro." I smiled. "I'm gonna meet up with some friends in San Francisco. This is the address if something comes up." I explained.

"What friends? Anybody I know?" Cam asked.

"Kinda. Remember that guy you met at my house warming? Christian?" I started.

"The guy who makes music?" Cam asked, his face unreadable.

"Exactly. He's releasing a single this weekend and since I'm already out here, I decided to hang with him."

"Hang huh? That's what the kids are calling it?" Cam looked at me, scrutinizingly.

"I don't know. Let me ask Imaginary. She stays up on the lingo."

"What do I know about this guy? Besides the fact that he makes music for a living?" Cam asked, ignoring my response this time.

"What else do you need to know?"

"Where does he live?"

"He works out of New York and California a lot." I answered truthfully.

"Ok...Where does he spend majority of his time? Which one is his main residence? Does he have places in both?"

"Umm, he owns a beach house in Mexico." I supplied, trying to avoid the fact that I had no idea of any of those answers.

"Which state would he file taxes in? He does pay his taxes right?" Cam interrogated me.

Thankfully, my dad came in the office and gave me a break from Cam's line of questioning.

"Hey Dad." I hopped up to give him a hug.

"Lily? How and when did you get here?" Dad asked.

"A little while ago. I rented a car." I replied while he frowned. "I know, I could have used one of yours, but I'm driving to San Francisco today and I didn't want to put those miles on your car."

"Driving to San Francisco? By yourself?" My dad's frowned deepened.

I was going to go with the imaginary friend bit again, but Cam nudged me so I didn't. "Yeah. It's not that bad of a drive. You've made it a ton of times."

"I thought the plan was to stay in town until the game." he asked.

"Yeah, but Bianca blew me off so I decided to take a little vacation alone." I said, plainly.

"So you have spoke to Bianca?" Dad questioned.

"Yes. She dropped out of school." Dad and Cam looked at each other and I narrowed my eyes. "But y'all already knew that, didn't you?"

"She mentioned it." Cam confirmed.

"Why didn't you mention it to me? We could have talked her out of it." I put my hands on my hips.

"It's her life. She has to make her own decisions and mistakes." my dad reminded me.

"Oh wow. Now you adopt that attitude. 27 years later." I rolled my eyes causing Cam to snicker.

"That's right. In the past, I would have spent hours trying to reason with you or bribe you out of taking a ridiculous 5 hour drive by yourself in a rental vehicle. Now, I let you make your own mistakes and make sure you have AAA on speed dial-" Dad's lecture that was surely coming was interrupted by a knock on the door. I was thrilled until I saw who came in. I felt a wave of disgust when a childhood friend of Cam's walked through the door.

"Mr. Ortiz, I have the invoices you wanted to take a look at." Johnny said, before spotting me and smiling.

"How's Texas Lily?" he asked, charmingly while looking me over. Urgh, I can't believe I once thought that was attractive. I pulled my light jacket tighter around my body and fixed a neutral face.

"Great. How's the family?"

"Great as well. My wife just had our third child."

"Just multiplying like roaches huh?" I quipped. Dad shoot me a warning glance and I cleared my throat.

"Congratulations." I said, strained.

Cam gave me a weird glance and I stood. "I have to get going. Don't want to drive in the dark."

"Give me one moment before you leave." my dad told me. I nodded as Cam and I left the office. Johnny had the mother fucking nerve to try touch me on the way out, but I sidestepped him, bumping into Cam.

"Great seeing you Lily." he said, with his disgusting leer.

I didn't respond; I just left.

As soon we for out the office I complained. "Dad hired that asshole?!?!"

"Yes. One of his best sales person." Cam said, amused.

"He would be. Slimy mother fucker." I muttered under my breath.

"I'm confused. I thought you liked him back in the day-" Cam teased.

"Urgh, don't fucking remind me. I didn't know him well enough back then."

"Well try to learn the basics while you're 'hanging out' with this new guy. Or I can vet him for you." Cam offered.

"No. I got it." I reassured him.

After I said goodbye to him and Dad, I got on the road. There was something liberating about getting in the car and just going on my own. My playlist on the drive consisted of all the new music I hadn't listen to yet: Rihanna, Coldplay, Charlie Puth, and an advance copy of Christian's unreleased first album. The music blasted loudly the entire time in the Jeep until I arrived in the neighborhood Christian's friend lived in. It was a nice neighbohood in the Marina district of San Francisco with no security gate.

I was able to find Christian's friends house pretty easily. The house was big, but really close to the neighbor's. Which was why I was surprised to hear music blaring when I walked up to the front door. I rang the doorbell, then knocked a few minutes before the door finally opened.

A beautiful woman opened the door and gave me a smile. She looked a little older than me, maybe her mid 30s, with long black hair, exotic slanted eyes and dark bronze skin.

"You must be Lily." she said. When I nodded, she gestured me inside with her heavily jeweled hand. "Come on in. I'm Jennifer."

"Hi Jennifer. I would introduce myself, but apparently you already know me." I commented, as I followed her towards the back of the house where the music was coming from.

"Christian's been talking my ear off about you. Besides, I make it a habit of knowing who knows where I live." she threw over her shoulder.

My face scrunched up when I realized she was the friend Christian spoke of. I quickly fixed my face.  "You have a lovely house. Thanks for letting me stay."

"Any friend of Christian's is a friend of mine and my husband. You're welcomed anytime." She grinned at me before we joined everyone in a back room.

I smiled back, sincerly as we walked into a sun room with a glass ceiling, glass windows and glass doors. The windows and doors to the room opened to a view of a backyard with a swimming pool. Even when the windows and doors opened  I could still smell the heavy scent of marijuana in the air.

"Lily... You're here."Christian grinned, standing up from a large ottoman he was sitting at. His eyes were bloodshot and hooded as he looked me over then pulled me in for an extra long hug.

"I'm here." I grinned too, hugging him back.

"Now you can stop checking your phone like a little bitch." Paul, one of Christian's friends I met during thanksgiving, clowned him.

Christian just laughed. "Making sure she's safe makes me a bitch?"

"No. Checking your phone but not calling makes you a biaaatch." His friend Tom added in.

"Paul, T-Swizzle!" I smiled at them two. They were the only two people I recognized in the room.

"Please don't call him that." Jennifer groaned at me lightheartedly.

"Please do. I'm the Taylor Swift of this squad." Tom self appointed himself again.

"He does have the hair and the legs." I agreed.

"And dated a ton of DUDES." Paul cried out. Everyone laughed as Tom launched over a couch towards him.

"Ahhh! Fire!" Paul screamed as he narrowly escaped Tom's attack.

"Fire?" I asked.

"No one comes if you yell help!" Paul explained before disappearing outside. Instead of chasing him, Tom locked him out.

"C'mon. Let me show you your room." Jennifer shook her head at them.

"We're in her room. There's your bed. Shawnee, get up." Christian smiled at me, rubbing the couch.

"Better than by your feet." I smiled back, teasingly.

"You do not have to sleep on the foot of his bed. You have a room. Christian, stop lying and make yourself useful. Go get her bags." Jennifer ordered him.

"These are my bags." I gestured to my roll on duffle, tote and purse.

The girl from the couch I assumed was Shawnee looked at me shocked. "That's it? She's not coming to the release parties?"

"Yeah she is. She doesn't need 7 bags of junk everywhere she goes." Christian answered.

"I'm just saying. She could have really took the couch and let me have my room." She said, snarkily.

"You stay in my bathroom and closet anyway so she's using that room." Jennifer guided me to a guest room.

"I really could have found a place to stay until Saturday. I don't want to put anyone out." I offered.

"You can put her out anytime." Christian said following us with my bag.

Jennifer gave him a little look before assuring me, "Shawnee is my sister in law and thinks the room is hers because it's where she normally sleeps. It's the guest room. You're my guest so it's all yours."

"Thank you."

"Make yourself at home and let me know if you need anything." Jennifer said before leaving.

"My room is still available if you feel more comfortable there." Christian smiled at me.

"I'll check it out but where will you sleep?" I smirked.

"You would kick me out of my own room? Cold world." Christian shook his head, still smiling.

"Then I'll stay here." I said, moving to go through my bag.

"Are you hungry? Tried? Wanna hang out awhile?" he questioned me.

"Yeah. I'm just gonna freshen up first." I explained.

"Right. Towels in the bathroom. Soaps in there too. Hurry up." Christian instructed me before leaving. I locked the door behind him, smiling to myself. I called my dad to let him know I made it. I called Sammy too- she was house sitting and watching Justine for me.

"How's my baby?" I asked Sammy when she answered.

"She's good. Curled up on me as we speak." Sammy replied.

"Has she been eating?"

"Hardly any of the dry food I give her in the morning. When I came over this evening, she ate the wet food. I'm thinking about giving it to her in the morning too."

"The only thing about that is you can't leave her alone with it. If she doesn't eat it while you're there, it has to be refrigerated or thrown out." I informed her.

"I can do that."

"How are her poops?"

"Disgusting."

I laughed."Are they normal? No weird colors, mucus, blood, diarrhea?"

"Fuck no. I would have told you to come get her."

"Then do me a favor? Mix the wet and dry food and see how she does with it."

"Done."

After I got off the phone, I looked through my bag for something to wear. I packed cotton shorts, leggings and tops for around the house clothing, but seeing how the other women were dressed for hanging out, I knew that wasn't going to cut it. I decided on a cute tank dress and washed up quickly using the bath set I found in the bathroom. After applying the matching lotion, I put on a little make-up, pulled my hair up in a bun and pulled on my dress. After a little debate, I opted to put on flip flops instead of being barefoot. Feeling confident, I found my way back to the sun room.

I joined Christian on a love seat as everyone debated what to order for food.

"You smell really good." Christian complimented me while inhaling my hair.

I stiffened as he nuzzled my neck. It was a little weird in front of his friends, but I relaxed.

"Tell Jennifer. I used her gift basket." I commented.

"I picked it out for you."

"Then no wonder you like it."

"It smells better on you-"

"Christian. Lily. What do you want to eat?" Jennifer asked us.

"We'll take whatever you're getting Jen." Christian answered.

"Is there anything you don't eat Lily?" Jennifer asked me.

"No. I'm pretty adventurous." I replied.

"I bet." Shawnee breathed. I looked at her, but she pretended not to notice.

"You smoking with us this time?" Paul asked, plopping on the ottoman in front of us and blocking my vision of her.

"You know I can't. My job." I declined.

"What do you do?" Shawnee questioned me.

I sat up, turning my body and crossing my legs towards Christian so I could see her. "I'm a physical therapist."

"They do random drug test? What kinda hospital do you work at?" she scoffed.

"They don't, but if an accident occurs, the first thing they do is drug test everyone. I don't wanna be worried about it for however long it takes to get out of my system." I explained, ignoring her tone. I really wanted to make a good impression on his friends so I wasn't going to get upset by her attitude.

"She's a supervisor at a clinic for the Dallas Mavericks. You should interview her if you want actually sports related news on your little podcast." Christian said, caressing my ankle as he spoke.

I looked at her, interested. "You have a sports podcast?"

"I host a show called Girls Talk Sports." Shawnee answered.

"Oh, thats cool. Who do you have for the Super Bowl?" I said, trying to find some common ground with her.

"Denver." she said shortly.

"Really? Why?"

"Cam Newton is young and distracted by all his dancing and stripper baby momma." she answered.

I laughed, actually thinking she was kidding. When she just stared blankly at me, I knew she was serious. There was no way we were connecting over that type of sport talk. Christian caressed my ankle, snickering. When Shawnee looked even more annoyed by us, I pulled my leg away.

"Are you excited about half-time? I love Coldplay." I tried again.

"No. Coldplay is so depressing." she told me, dismissively.

"I blame Janet Jackson. Every since her boob came out, all the half-times afterwards seem boring!" Paul laughed.

"Beyonce slayed when she performed. She is the only reason I won't sleep through it or slit my wrist. Fuck Coldplay and their lame fans." Shawnee announced.

I didn't try to speak to her again after that declaration. Thankfully the food, Jennifer's husband Reginald, or RJ, and her best friend friend Yasmine, or Yazzy arrived and I focused on them. It was apparent Shawnee and I were the outsiders of their little clique, but I made attempts to get to know everyone while Shawnee played on her phone and took selfies the whole time.

I learned Yazzy kinda introduced everyone. She did social commentary vlogs for an online magazine she started with Jennifer. She helped introduced the masses to the more comedic videos that Tom and Paul made. Christian music was featured on the videos and RJ, who was the owner of his own indie label at the time, signed Christian. They all remained really close friends throughout the years.

After we finished eating, RJ broke out some whiskey which I did partake in.

"Whiskey? What's wrong?" Jen asked her husband.

He pointed at Christian. "Dealing with his fool manager. Let me tell you what Hugo did today-"

"Hey. Leave work at work. Some people are on vacation." Christian nodded towards me. My mouth was full of an amazing mango chutney or I would have told him it was fine.

Jennifer's eyes widen in understanding, then she turned to me. "What do you have planned for tomorrow?"

I swallowed my food before responding. "Very lame touristy stuff. I picked out a bus tour." I admitted.

"That's so lame." Christian agreed.

I giggled. "You can't make fun of me. I just made fun of myself."

"I'm not making fun; I'm agreeing with you." he rubbed my knee, playfully. I had no idea why his every touch was so... unnerving. And not in a good way.

"I can show you around. I don't have much going on tomorrow." Jennifer offered.

"We're going shopping Remember?" Shawnee cut in.

"We can fit that in Shawnee." Jennifer said.

"No. It's fine. You're a local and drive around town everyday. I'm fine exploring on my own." I smiled.

"And the other freaks on the bus." Tom added.

"Just leave Friday open for me." Christian requested.

I nodded.

Thankfully, there were no freaks on the bus tour I went on. Lots of families, groups of friends, older couples, and a few solo people like me but no one that really stood out. It was an open top sight seeing tour bus with a energetic guide that told us some of the history of different neighborhoods and attractions. Riding across Golden Gate Bridge on top of the bus was very breezy and a little cold, but definitely worth the panoramic view of the bridge that I got. I did get off the bus to check out a few different stops.

Chinatown was one of them. I took a walking tour through the market place as the guide provided us the history and culture and pointed out the best places for dim sum and tea. I got a bag of fortune cookies as well at the fortune cookie factory. I had lunch and soaked in the culture in the Mission District. I got off at Pier 39 to explore as well. I enjoyed the view of Alcatraz Island and the marine life from the waterfront. I checked out North Beach and little Italy where Italian immigrant settled during the gold rush. I also sampled chowder at Fisherman's Whaft while waiting for the night tour.

The night tour was an no stop ride through the city, seeing the same sights lite up under the night sky. The bus took us to Treasure Island where we had a beautiful view of the city. By the time I made it back to Jennifer's house, I was exhausted, but had a great time and a new appreciation for the city by the bay.

I used the key Christian gave me to let myself into the house. The last text Christian sent me was not to eat because we were having dinner together. I was surprised when no one was there. I wandered to the kitchen and found Christian cooking.

"You're cooking?" I asked, sitting at the island, watching him work.

"I am. We're having champagne risotto with prosciutto, asparagus and Parmesan cheese." he showed off.

"Oh fuck, you can really cook?" I asked, surprised.

He looked at me, incredulously. "My mom was a personal chef."

"Aww, so she taught you everything you know?"

Christian laughed. "Nah. She actually hated anyone in her personal domain but I have her recipes."

I laughed too."So we'll see if you can follow instructions. Where's everyone else?"

"They went out to dinner. It's just us tonight."

"Can I do anything to help?"

"I got this. Go relax. There's a bathtub in my room." He tempted me.

"You sure? I can finish the salad." I offered.

"No. I don't need you trying to steal my mom's recipes."

"I'm not convinced that's not Rice-O-Roni with some bacon bits on top." I grinned.

"Get outta here with that!"

"Rice-O-Roni. The San Francisco treat!" I sang before leaving the room.

I really should have stayed and helped, but my aching legs required rest and a bath sounded perfect. I also wanted to call and check up on Sammy and Justine. The bathtub was a huge garden tub. Using the bath products Christian picked out, I settled into a hot bubble bath. I spoke to Sammy while I soaked.

She informed me Justine was doing good with the mixed dog food, but was whining a little. We thought maybe she was missing me, so I got on speaker phone and talked to her. I don't know if it helped, but Sammy said she would keep me updated. I called Rocky next and she said she was doing ok. She relayed that she spoke to Jackie but would fill me in when I got back. I called Amber too and excitedly chatted about her trip. She was still gushing when my water got cold so I promised I would hear the rest when I got back to Dallas.

I got out the tub, quickly towel tied and lotioned before getting dressed in leggings and a t-shirt. Since it was just us, I left my hair down and went make-up free. I second guessed my choices when I came to the dining room and the table was set with candles and flowers with Coldplay playing gently in the background.

"Oh oh. Coldplay is suicidal music. You're not trying to kill us with your cooking." I joked as he led me to the table.

"I love Coldplay too. They were the first band I ever saw in concert. Don't listen to anything Shawnee says." Christian said.

"She's... A character." I started as he sat  a plate in front of me with salad and risotto. "Is there a reason she decided not to like me?"

"Who cares what she thinks? She's the walking embodiment of everything I hate about the entertainment industry. She's an Instagram model that lives off attention. Literally, she gets paid off of likes and comments. Her podcast and career are jokes." Christian explained.

I was surprised by the viciousness of his comments towards her. "Is there a history between you two?"

"No, I mean besides RJ being like a brother to me. I have to deal with her by extension."

"If you say so..." I said, taking a bite of my salad.

"Everyone you met is like family. It's part of the reason why I wanted you out here. Being around you with your family and friends gave me a better understanding of who you are. I wanted you to have the same understanding about me. My friends, they keep me grounded. Even Shawnee- she reminds me not to get too caught up in the lifestyle." Christian explained.

I nodded. "Ok. Thank you for inviting me and sharing yourself with me."

"No. Thank you for coming."

The risotto was finally cool enough to eat so I took a bite and smiled. "So much better than Rice-O-Roni or any risotto I've tried." I complimented him.

"I know." he said proudly with a smile.

We ate dinner slowly, talking about my adventure in San Francisco thus far. We talked about all the places we've traveled. My travels weren't as extensive as Christian's and a lot of my trips were tied to Trevor, so I mostly asked about the places he has been. I found out his mom was a big traveller and would take him somewhere new every time he had a break from school. He didn't talk about his mom very often, so I listened intently. He told me how she cultivated his love of traveling, experiencing new cultures and trying new foods. When they weren't traveling, she supported his love of music, despite the fact he inherited it from his father.

I asked about his dad as we cleaned the kitchen. He told me his father was the definition of a rolling stone. He played multiple instruments and toured all over the world in different bands when Christian was a kid. He told me his mom never had a great relationship with his dad after he was born, but encouraged a relationship between them even when his dad seemed too busy to care.

We went to his room and got comfortable in his bed as he told me more about his family. He has half siblings from his dad, but his dad lifestyle choices didn't really promote family bonding. Some of them reached out when Christian garnered fame and money, but by then Christian wasn't interested with relationships with them. After his mom passed, his dad tried to reach out, but Christian never reciprocated. He felt like he really only had his friends.

I related with him, telling him about how my friends were my family for a long time too. I confided in him the whole sordid history of my dad and why he adopted me and how I found out. I even told him about connecting with my aunt Patty, only to be estranged because of her feelings towards Bianca. I explained how I still had yet to reach out to my mom because of the choices she made when I was younger- And because I was afraid of her reaction.

"We have a lot in common huh?" Christian said, wrapping an arm around me.

I fidgeted, trying to get comfortable in his arms. "Funny how we're just figuring it out considering we met almost a decade ago."

"I hate I didn't talk to you in college." Christian said stroking my hair behind my ear. "My mom hated every girl I dated. She woulda liked you."

"I hope so. She was obviously an amazing woman."

"I know she would." His eyes bore into mine, making me uncomfortable in his gaze.

"I should go to my bed." I said, nervously.

"No. Stay. I'm a great cuddler. I'll play more Coldplay." He promised.

"Okay. Just cuddling. And I wanna hear Parachutes."

"Deal."

Good Intentions

***So so sorry it's late! Imma try to make up for it this week.

"I got something to say
A confession of me
I've been led astray
Tried so hard to change
But I'm set on my ways
My words mean nothing again
I promised I'd be good
But I can't help myself from these temptations
When they come, there's nothing I can do
I promised I'd be good
The road to hell is paved with good intentions
So when I fall, I will fall to you
I promised I'd be good
I promised I'd be good by The Chainsmokers

I watched the intricate blue, green, and purple peacock feathers disappear in a back hallway with Brandon towards a set of elevators. I remembered Amber's words when she told me she liked Jackie costume. It was unique- no one else dressed up as a peacock. I followed the couple to the elevator and spotted them, groping and kissing as they waited for the elevator.

"Jackie?" I called out while simultaneously hoping it wasn't her.

Brandon turned around first, looking guilty as sin and confirming my fears before Jackie even came to view. When she did, I felt my stomach churn.

"Yes?" Jackie replied, staring at me like I was the one slobbing down my best friend's ex-fiance.

"Are you ok?" I said, taking a step closer to them while crossing my arms.

"I'm good." She answered, matter of factly. I looked over at Brandon, who refused to meet my eye but pulled away from Jackie.

I turned back to Jackie and my eyes clashed with hers. "You sure you're not drunk or losing your fucking mind?" I said, using every trick I learned in therapy to rein in my temper.

"Lily- we..." Brandon started as we both turned our glares off each other and on to him.

"You don't have to explain anything to her!" Jackie commanded him.

"You really don't Brandon." I told him, dismissively. "But you-" I said turning back to Jackie. "I never thought much of you, but I never thought you would stoop this low. How could you?!?"

"The same way Rocky hooked up with Forrest." Jackie declared, triumphantly.

My fingers tapped against my elbows rhythmically as I crossed my arms tighter in a physical attempt to calm down and keep myself together. Her mocking tone like it was funny to her was stoking my anger. "What does that have to do anything?" The elevator opened, but we continued to face off.

"Everything! She's dating him even though I was talking to him first." Jackie hissed viciously. Brandon pulled away from her, looking distraught, but she ignored him. I didn't know which one was upsetting to him: the fact that Rocky and Forrest were dating or that Jackie tried to talk to Forrest first.

"Forrest didn't like you so you hook up with her ex? What planet are you living on where that makes sense?" I was not sure if I should be furious at her lack of reasoning or concerned for her mental health.

"The same planet where she can date one guy, talk to an ex and keep another one hostage because she's having his baby. She's a basic bitch trying to secure the best baby daddy. She's losing this option." she said, arrogantly trying to hold on to Brandon.

Brandon shook her off, shooting her a disgusted look before stalking away from us. I shook my head at her as he left.

"Good luck with that. I'll go up and check on your daughter." I turned away from her too and pressed the elevator button.

"Don't you worry about my daughter!!!" she snarled lividly stepping in front of me.

"Somebody has to while you're out having fun whoring around but you have a good time-" I didn't get to finish before she charged at me. The attack never came- Ethan and Jake swooped in between us out of nowhere. Jake held Jackie back while Ethan just grabbed my arm.

"Chill. Don't take it to that level." Jake said, trying to calm Jackie down.

I momentarily froze, until the realization she was going to physical attack me hit me. Adrenaline pumped through my body as I clenched my fists.

"Let her go Jake." I said, calmly, recalling all my boxing training, ready to punch the shit out of her if she touched me.

"It's not worth it." Ethan commented, as Jake easily pulled a lunatic Jackie away as she called me every name in the book. Ethan's grip tightened on my arm as he pulled me into the elevator.

It took everything in me not to say anything as I seethed on the elevator ride. When we got to the room, Resa was on her phone texting while the kids ate cupcakes, watched tv or played Cuponk.

"Resa, your mom is downstairs waiting for you." Ethan said. He pulled out his wallet and picked out a few twenties.

"Lily already paid me." Resa said as she stood up.

"This is a thank you from me. I appreciate you watching the kids all night." He told her, handing her the money.

"Thank you. Happy birthday." Resa smiled before leaving the room.

"Jackie shouldn't be driving." I pointed out.

"Jake got them a ride." Ethan said

I sat down and watched the kids. Watching them was enough to calm down. It took my mind off of how I was going to tell Rocky about her crazy, traitorous, bitch of a friend. It also made me avoid Ethan's eyes. I was ashamed he caught me ready to fight in a hotel lobby.

"You were really going to fight her?" Ethan asked me, reading my mind.

"Rocky can't fight- She's pregnant."

"So you were fighting for her?" He asked, sitting beside me on the couch.

"If you would have let me knock Jackie out, by the time she woke back up, Rocky would have had Ace and be ready to knock her out again." I reasoned, only half kidding.

His lips curled up in amusement before he shook his head.

We sat in silence for a moment, before the kids made a loud commotion. We looked over to see EJ jumping up and down, claiming he won.

"What are they playing?" Ethan asked.

"Cuponk. I found it at Wal-Mart. They have to bounce the ball in the cup." I explained.

"So beer pong?" Ethan smirked.

I chuckled. "No way. Do you see any beer? Although root beer would be a good idea."

"A bunch of kids drunk on sugar- horrible idea." Ethan and I were both smiling when Deborah and Albert joined us.

"We got the kids. Get back to the party." Albert grinned at us.

"Yes. Serena was looking for you Ethan." Deborah added.

We stood up and headed back down to the ballroom. It was painfully quiet and tense on the elevator ride and I had no idea why. In an effort to ease some of the tension, I made small talk.

"It's nice Serena showed up." I commented.

"You think?" Ethan responded plainly.

"Yeah. Obviously she still cares. I wouldn't go to an ex's birthday party unless I did. I hope you two work it out." I said truthfully. Obviously Ethan still cared about her. I wanted him to be happy and if Serena was it, I was glad for him.

"We'll see." Ethan said before we got off the elevator. Jake was waiting in the lobby to speak to me and Ethan left us alone.

"I talked to Brandon." he assured me

"Brandon's a grown man Jake. He's about to be a father. He has to start making the right decisions on his own." I sighed.

"I know, but this is hard for him. It's been a rough year- I know he's still hurting."

"Life is hard, rough and full of hurt. You can't just fuck it all away."

"I know. Some people just learn the hard way."

"His learning is hurting my friend. You know, the one pregnant with his child."

"Just... Give him time to tell Rocky. You know it's worse if she hears it from someone else." he requested.

"I'll give him two days after she gets back from Louisiana. Then, I'm snitching." I warned.

"Fair enough." Jake agreed.

We returned to the party and went our separate ways. I started cleaning up, putting beads away in a large tote bag while jamming out to Christian's mix. At the very end of the night, I was helping Sammy shut down the bar when Amber rushed over to us. "Will is taking me to New Orleans!" she squealed.

"No way!" I grinned, sarcastically.

"You already knew! I just wanted you to know I know now too! We're getting ready to leave. Thank you both for taking care of the kids!!!" Amber threw her arms around us.

"Anytime." I said, hugging her. "Have fun!"

Will came to retrieve her so they could leave. Staci and Mia came over to say goodbye too.

"Are you two going to the after party?" Mia asked us after they left.

"What after party?" I asked.

"Daniel was talking about a lounge close by." Staci mentioned. As they made plans as far as who was driving, I made a trip to my car with some of the left over supplies. When I got ready to get Amber's kids, Ethan stopped me.

"My parents are going to spend the night here and watch them." he informed me.

"They don't have to do that."

"They want to and you'll be able to have tonight free."

"Ok... I can pick EJ up too when I get Amber's kids tomorrow." I planned.

"What about tomorrow?" Serena asked, joining us.

"I was offering to take EJ for the rest of the weekend." I answered.

"That would be great. We can go out to that lounge now." Serena said, excitedly.

"Let me talk to EJ. I told him we would do something together tomorrow." Ethan told her.

"He wants to spend time with my Hoover board." I smiled. "Just text me tonight and let me know."

"You're not coming out with us?" Ethan asked.

"I'm exhausted, but y'all have a good time." I declined.

Once I got home, I saw I had two texts: one from Ethan and another from Christian.

Ethan: You were right. He rather spend quality time with your hooverboard.

Me: Ha! Good. You spend tomorrow recuperating. That's how I know I succeeded as a party planner.

Ethan: You did. Thank you Lily.

Me: No problem.

Christian: Sorry. I gave up your room. He who hesitates is lost... You lost your bed. I'm willing to share mine. Think you can fit on the foot of the bed?

I laughed.

Me: I'll take a couch. Or a reclining chair. Are we staying with one of your loaded friends? Cause I'll take patio furniture too. No way I'm sleeping by your stinking feet!

Christian: My feet do not stink.

Me: Yeah they do. Probably from wearing the same Timberland boots every day during college.

I giggled to myself. Our friends teased him in college about his beloved Timberlands.

Christian: I had Timbs for everyday of the week! My feet and shoes stay fresh to death.

Me: Death is right... I can smell them from here {boot, nose, dead emoji}

Christian: Lol Maybe it's you...I saw the stripper costume you were wearing tonight. I know you've been taking pole dancing classes. Did you do something strange for some change? {pole dancer, censored boobs, fat ass, money bag emoji}

I laughed so loud, I covered my mouth in fear of waking Justine.

Me:LMFAO I was a go go dancer with your dirty mind and dirty feet. How'd you get those emojis?

Christian: Kimoji

Me: NOOOO! YOU DON'T HAVE THOSE!

Christian: Say what you want. They make sexting so much easier.

Me: You sext often?

Christian: It's been a while. In fact, send me a nude {kim taking a selfie emoji}

I took a picture of my nude color painted fingernails and sent it to him.

Christian: I know you're trying to be funny, but that works for me. In my mind, your fingers are doing a lot strange things...

Me: lol I'm so done with you!!! Goodnight perv.

Christian: Night sexy

Even though I was exhausted, Christian's last few text had me wide awake, thinking about my fingers against him. And his fingers against me. I ran my fingers over my body, teasing myself. I played with my nipples and clitoris until I orgamsed, moaning my release. It was the most fun I had on my own in a long time and I feel asleep, feeling good and throughly sastified.

Sunday was my first day with the kids. Sammy and Corey stayed at the hotel too, so they joined me after I picked the kids up. We took them to see the Peanuts movie. It made me think of Trevor's mom and her obsession with the gang, but I felt no ill will. I wondered how Trevor and his family were doing. I made a point of not social media stalking him or asking about him through friends, but I wondered in general how he was doing.

After the movie, we went to my house. We decided to have a mini game night and board games and cards. While Corey, Robbie and I worked on snacks, Sammy helped the girls set up the room they were staying in and EJ practiced on the hooverboard. When the snacks were done, we sat the dining room table and played games. We were playing Uno when my doorbell rang. It was Serena and Ethan.

"It's ok that I dropped by? I wanted to see your new house." Serena asked. I smiled, proudly.

"Of course. Come on in." I let them in.

Serena looked around the first floor as I got settled back with with Robbie to help him play our hand together.

"Do we have a blue?" I asked.

"Nope!" Robbie replied.

"7?" I asked.

"Right there!" Robbie pointed to a yellow 7.

"Put it down!" I cheered.

When Corey had to draw cards to play, the kids started singing "Dig baby dig".

"Where did you all learn that?" Ethan asked.

"Miss Lily!" April and Krista laughed.

"Why am I not surprised?" Ethan commented.

"Because it's so clever?" I whipped my head at him.

"If that's what you want to believe." Ethan smirked.

I grinned. "I do."

"Lily, can you show me upstairs?" Serena asked.

"Uh, sure. Ethan? Help Robbie please?" I stood up.

He took my spot, sitting beside Robbie.

I headed up the stairs with Serena.

"The party turned out great " she complimented me with a small smile.

"So did your costume. It's looked amazing." I complimented back as I showed her the sitting room, the guest rooms, and Justine's room. Justine was inside, the door open, but she just raised her head at us. I figured the sounds and the kids were too much excitement for her and she needed to rest.

"And here's my study area." I said. Serena stood by the doorway when I walked in, staring at the print Ethan got me for my promotion. The one of the girl reaching for the sky.

"My dad picked out a desk that matched the frame perfectly." I stated.

"It looks great." she said, flatly.

"Thanks." I waited for her to turn and leave, but she didn't. She step inside the room and closed the door.

"I don't know how else to ask, so I'm just going to ask it. Is something going on between you and Ethan?" She said, bluntly.

I rolled my eyes, beyond annoyed. "We had this conversation before."

"No. I asked about you two's past. I'm asking about right now. You jumped right in to plan his party for him, making sure it was nothing like the party I planned. You have a room dedicated to a print he gave you. That means something. Do you have feelings for him?" Serena questioned me.

I took a lengthy breath, exhaling and inhaling slowly. I calmed myself down; I wasn't about to let Serena and her nonsense get me worked up. It wasn't worth it.

"It means we're friends Serena. He told me he was still waiting on you to come around, the week of his party. Amber and I took over so he would still have a party. I like the print his mom picked out.  So once again, no. I don't have feelings for Ethan." I finished.

"Good." She finally opened the door.

"More importantly, if you two are getting back together-"

"We are." she confirmed.

"Then focus on him, not anyone else." I finished, leaving the study and going back downstairs.

"Lily, help. We're in China!" Robbie yelled, waving his hands full of cards.

"What happened?" I couldn't help smiling at Robbie's declaration.

"Apparently, we dug to China." Ethan filled me in with a smile.

"Thanks a lot Ethan" I said as I reclaimed my seat next to Robbie. I gave Robbie a wide smile.

"Wow. All these cards, you sure were not in Australia mate?" I said, in my best accent while kissing Robbie's check. He wiped it off, which made me kiss him even more until he laughed. His laughter chased away anything but fun as we continued playing.

After the game which April won, Ethan, Serena and EJ started to head out.

"I wish I could stay." EJ grumbled as he rode the hooverboard to the door.

"Tell you what? Pick a weekend with your parents and we'll make it happen." I said, giving him a huge hug.

"Thanks for having us Lily. It was fun." Serena said with a bright smile like she didn't question my intentions with her boyfriend.

"It was nothing." I said, forcing a smile as she left my house. Ethan looked at me, curiously, but I gave him a genuine smile.

"Good night."

"You too Lily. Take care."

When I got the kids settled in bed, everything clean and Sammy and Corey left with the extra food, I finally relaxed. My weekend was long and exhausting- I was so ready for my vacation. I excitedly dug through my closet, picking out what clothes I should pack.

As I made a mental list of things I needed, my phone rang. I picked it up when I saw it was Rocky. We spoke briefly about the party but I mostly let her tell me about her trip. She told me Forrest's mom was really sweet and his step dad was nice as well. She told me how big the parade was and how the city shut down for it. Overall, she had a good time with Forrest, Blake and Jordan. I was glad I promised not to tell Rocky and spoil her good mood. I was grateful I didn't have to be the messenger about her devious bitchy friend and careless baby's father. At least, not yet.

The next morning I woke up super early to get the kids ready for school. Krista was not a morning person, so she was uncharacteristically quiet, but once we were in the car on the way she chatted my ears off about where to drop them off, where to pick them up and what she wanted for a snack. I took note as we sat in the carpool lane forever. I never appreciated no longer having to sit in morning traffic or watch out for school zones on my normal routine. I did now.

I went to the store after dropping them off and picked up groceries. I also made sure I had extra pencils and crayons for the kids homework. I cooked dinner and had their snack out before I went to work. Sammy already had my key so after she picked them up, they could come straight to my house.

At work, I was starting my brief huddle with the physical trainers before the second shift started when Dr. Clayton came inside the huddle room. He took over for me, letting me know Uriel needed to speak to me concerning the video. I went into the office and found Uriel sitting behind the desk, waiting for me.

"Are you comfortable?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Is this your seat?" he asked, with a smile that said he wasn't sorry at all about sitting in it.

"No. What can I do for you?" I asked, sitting across from him.

"We wrap up filming this week. I wanted to have a small gathering here, just to say thank you to your staff and the talent that worked on the video." Uriel explained.

"I don't see why that would be a problem. I'll speak to my boss about it."

"Done. He just said to make sure it was okay with the shift team lead."

"It's ok." I said.

"Good. I'm going to pick up a cake. Where did you get your birthday cake from?" Uriel asked with a smile.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "I thought you didn't remember my birthday cake."

"Nah, I don't. But you seemed pretty excited about it." he countered smartly.

"I didn't buy it so I have no idea. Besides, you wouldn't want a cake that's unmemorable." I said, before leaving the office, aggravated.

In between checking on physical therapist and clients, I watched Uriel direct his team and the teenagers through different shots. He handled everyone with confident and ease that was very admirable. I had no idea why he chose to get on my nerves everytime we spoke.

When I got home from work, the kids were fed and watching TV. I let Justine go outside before making my plate and asking about their day. I barely sat down to eat before Justine was whining at the door to come back in. I opened the door, freshen her water before rejoining everyone. Justine laid down at my feet while we watched a show called Dancing Dolls. It consisted of older girls in a dance battle. When two moms started arguing, I turned to Sammy.

"Should they be watching this?"

"Krista says they can." Sammy shrugged.

Amber and Will called again before the kids went to bed. While Sammy let them talk, I took a quick shower. When I got out, Sammy left and I crashed in bed too.

I got a call from Christian the following day, asking when I got into town and when I was leaving. I text Bianca to see what her schedule looked like before I made plans with Christian.

"This week is really busy for me." Bianca tried to back out of making plans with me.

"We don't have to do anything. I can entertain myself. I just want to see you."

"Lily, I'm not going to be in California. Noelle has a photo shoot in Tahiti."

I stiffened at the mention of Noelle, but tried to remain neutral. "You're going with her? Didn't your semester just start? Kinda early to be skipping classes."

Bianca sighed. "I'm not taking classes this semester."

Not going to lie, I flipped out. "What? Why? Is it money? Because you know I will help you with tuition if your mom won't."

"No. It has nothing to do with money. Noelle is expanding her brand, traveling, starting a clothing line. I'm helping-"

"Please tell me you did not drop out of school to follow Noelle?!? Bianca, you are one semester away from your degree. If you don't think your relationship can survive a semester apart, maybe you shouldn't be with her!"

"Did you not hear me? I'm helping her with a fashion line. That is my dream! It has nothing to do with her. Stop trying to find a reason why we should break up." she argued heatedly.

"It does have something to do with her since all your priorities and values have changed-"

"Oh, that's right. She made me a sinner. She made me a lesbian and now I'm going straight to hell..."

"Don't give me that. You know I don't care if your straight, gay or in between. The Bianca that I know wouldn't quit school or help someone cheat or keep things from me." I said, exasperated.

"Mom wanted me to go to school. I didn't just help her cheat; we fell in love. I don't tell you everything because this is how you react. I'm sorry if you don't approve, but I really don't care. I'm living for myself and doing what I want for a change." Bianca exclaimed.

"Ok Bianca. I guess I'll just try to see you another time." I said sadly.

"Fine. See ya." she said before she hung up.

I spent the rest of my morning in a funk. I went to my boxing class, ran my errands, and made dinner for the kids trying to get everything off my mind. At work, Rocky called me right before I got off, highly upset about Jackie and Brandon. I told her I would be over so we could talk. After making sure Sammy was ok putting the kids to bed, I went to Rocky's house.

"I'm not crying because I'm sad." Rocky said, wiping tears from her face as we sat in the kitchen. "I'm mad as hell. I thought we were over this foolishness."

"You are over it. Ace is the most important person. Neither of them are worth getting upset over." I comforted her.

"I know that it's just he tried to put it back on me. Like he was so upset over our relationship being over and after Jackie told him about Forrest, he wasn't thinking straight. No matter how mad or over him I was, it never crossed my mind to hook upbwith one of his friends. It's disgusting!"

"I know. Jackie tried to rationalize it too. There's no excuse for it." I agreed.

"What? When did you talk to Jackie? How did you know?" Rocky asked, confused.

Fuck.

"I confronted them at Ethan's party. I caught them leaving together." I admitted.

"What did they say?" Rocky demanded. I told her word for word and her eyes dried up.

"How can she even think that, much less say it to you like you weren't going to tell me?" Rocky seethed.

"She had no remorse Rocky. It was all fun and games to her until I implied she rather hook up than take care of her daughter." I informed her.

"She's done plenty of shady dirty things. I should have known she would do them to me. I thought we were closer than that. I'm done with her." Rocky said, bitterly.

"At least you know the truth. And Brandon told you. That's something in his favor."

"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked.

I told her the truth. "I promised I would give him time to tell you himself."

"Exactly. He knew if he didn't, you would. I thought we could move past everything and be friends but we can't. If it's not about Ace, I want nothing to do with him." Rocky said with finality.

When I was sure she was ok, I went home. The kids were fast asleep and Sammy cleaned the kitchen for me.

"Thank you. It has been the longest few days of my life." I collapsed on the couch.

"Now you understand why I don't want kids." Sammy remarked, handing me a glass of wine. She was driving me to the airport the next day so I guess she decided to drink since she didn't have to drive home.

"The kids were a bright spot. I'll miss them. At least they have a reason to be childish." I commented, sipping my wine.

"What's going on?" Sammy asked me, sitting with her glass and a couple of bottles of wine.

I vented about Jackie's and Brandon's unholy union, Serena interrogating me, and Bianca dropping out of college one semester shy of her degree. I even told her about how much Uriel bugged me, even though he wouldn't be a problem after I got back from California.

"Bianca will be alright. Not everyone needs college to make it." Sammy began refilling my glass.

"It's one semester! She's helping Noelle build her brand like a wanna be Kardashian. Who the hell inspires to be a Kardashian?" When Sammy raised her hand, I opened the next wine bottle.

Sammy laughed."Seriously, she wants to be a designer right? She's having experiences that she wouldn't at school. She's making connections, learning how the business works, getting her foot in the door. Worst case scenario, she can always go back to school." She finished.

I sipped slowly, thinking it over. "Maybe."

"And don't worry about Serena. They're not going to last. Any time you have to question another female and not your boyfriend, it's over." she said, as I tipped off my glass. "Give it a couple months and she and Ethan will be done. Then swoop on in there." Sammy tipped off my wine glass.

I laughed. "I will not be swooping. There's nothing going on."

"Y'all disappeared for awhile at the party. Reappeared together. Serena probably noticed if I did."

"We were together because of stupid Brandon and whore Jackie."

Sammy shuddered in disgust. "I hope Brandon strapped up. Jackie is petty enough to try to give him project twins."

I almost choked on the wine I was sipping. "Project twins?"

"When a guy gets two women pregnant at the same time."

"Ohmygosh you're stupid." I giggled finishing my wine.

"So do you like Uriel?" Sammy asked me.

"No! He's so... Tall!" I exclaimed the first thing that came to my mind."Having sex with him would be like climbing a fucking tree."

Sammy pulled out her phone. "You thought about having sex with him?"

"Ew, no. I was just saying." I went to drink my wine, but then remembered my glass was empty.

"You remember in elementary school when a boy would pull your hair on the playground to show you he liked you?" Sammy asked.

"No." I snorted.

"That's what it sounds like he's doing. Based of his Instagram, he's used to girls hitting on him."

"You're on his Instagram?" I asked, scooting closer to her to look at her phone.

"Yep. He has a lot of girls trying to scale his branches." Sammy showed me.

"I'm not. I'm trying to go on vacation and have a good time." I announced.

"I don't even know who's playing in the super bowl, but have fun." Sammy smiled at me.

My smile falter slightly, knowing I was thinking about Christian and not the football game. Instead of questioning and over analyzing it, I just went with my feelings. I decided to have no expectations of myself other than to have a good time. That's all I intended to do.
